Sushi Calories and Nutritional Information

Thankfully sushi is not a particularly fattening food, and a low calorie meal is not out of the cards if you have a craving for sushi. While the rice in sushi contains a fair amount of carbohydrates, sushi can be eaten without rice (as sashimi) and in moderation, even a standard sushi item can be a healthy treat without breaking the calorie bank. In this section we highlight the the calories in sushi and the nutritional values for common sushi items you will likely find in your sushi dining adventures. We have collected information on nigiri sushi (finger sushi), maki sushi (rolls), sashimi, side items you may find at a Japanese restaurant, and even items that are commonly found at grocery stores like Whole Foods. We hope that this information will help you make informed decisions.

Sushi caloriesWe caution our readers that as with any hand-crafted food, a similar sushi item made by two different sushi chefs may have different proportions of ingredients, and therefore different values for calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein. Restaurants may also add ingredients, such as mayonnaise, to some rolls which will increase their caloric values over our baseline data. However, the information in this section should give you a good approximation of the calorie and nutritional content of various sushi items in order to make an informed decision regarding the weight loss advantages of lean protein and sushi in general.

Please keep in mind that we at The Sushi FAQ are not nutritionists or dietitians. We have simply compiled data from official sources (e.g. the USDA) and data from restaurants and supermarkets in order to provide our readers with a single source of accurate numbers. By popular demand for a Weight Watchers PointsPlus list, we have added estimated Weight Watchers points for sushi items (usually rounded to the nearest half point) calculated from the nutritional values provided. Customizing IKEA Godmorgon Vanity

bathroom 01 copy 2.JPG

When trying to find the right vanity for our bathroom renovation I felt frustrated by the insane prices of the vanities on the market. I wanted a custom look but needed to be mindful of cost. I discovered Semihandmade a while back and LOVED how their fronts turn an inexpensive IKEA product into a custom dream. After spending weeks searching the internet I threw up my arms and decided to go to IKEA. I knew Semihandmade made fronts for the IKEA Godmorgon cabinet. So I cornered a couple of IKEA sales associates and asked A LOT of questions. My biggest concern was the weight of a custom countertop. The two associates were "pretty sure" that putting real stone on top wasn't going to work but they were wrong. 🙌🏼 To be clear...I am very much an advocate of trusting the specialist. But in this situation, they just seemed… confused. So I reached out to a contractor who said, "no problemo".

Quick tip - ask questions until you're blue in the face. And if someone seems unsure of their answer, ask someone else.

Before we even started on the plumbing, I planned out where the cabinet would be and where the plumbing line needed to poke through. My biggest concerns were making the accommodation for the sink underbelly in the top drawer and making sure the plumbing and p-trap didn't impede on the top rear wall of the lower drawer. I sat down with my contractor and we measured out the cabinet and where the plumbing line needed to come through. It was a team effort. If you're a savvy renovator, I'm sure you could figure this out.. but at 7 months pregnant there was no way I was trusting my math. ha!

Quick tip - sometimes you can find a contractor that will come out for an hourly rate to provide a consultation on how to do something!

Once the undermount sink/countertop combo was installed we added the p-trap and additional plumbing pieces. Once in, we were able to measure out how much of the top drawer needed to be cut back. We also had to shave the very back of the bottom drawer down a tiny tiny bit so it would completely close. But it worked and I was victorious!

For those of you looking to do this same set-up, I hope this helps answer the questions you may have!

Things You Must Know Before Buying a Compact Toilet

While all toilets have the same basic features that make it hard to go wrong, you should still be vigilant and wise when choosing a toilet.

Here's what you need to consider when choosing a small toilet.

Size

Size is definitely one of the most important factors when it comes to compact toilets.

Nobody wants to be hunched up and feel squeezed when using the bathroom.

It's critical to choose a size that fits comfortably in your bathroom, and make sure its size doesn't compromise overall comfort and functionality.

The width usually doesn't cause any issues, but you should consider the height because too low of a toilet can ruin your bathroom experience.

Be Mindful of Length & Distance

Pay careful attention to the length (the distance between the front and back of the toilet). It will be a determining factor in your purchase decision. Its best to pick a toilet that is equal to or less than your previous toilet's length.

Not only does doing that shave off a few inches and help you save a bit on floor space, but it also guarantees that the toilet will fit. So, how small should it be?

Typical toilet dimensions are somewhere around 27" (D) x 19" (W) x 26" (H). Anything with 26″ or less length is considered a 'small' toilet.

Space-Saving Shape

Most compact toilets are fitted with an 'elongated' bowl, and some are configured with a 'compact' bowl. For both types, the width is usually about the same.

Elongated-style toilets differ in length and tend to be about two inches longer than that on a compact bowl. The longer seat provides more thigh support, and many people find this much more comfortable.

A perfect example of a space-saving shape is the GALBA toilet (the first one on our list). This one-piece small toilet comes with an elongated bowl and well-rounded features that make help it fit into a bathroom well.

Type: One-Piece vs. Two-Piece Toilets

The type of construction can make a huge difference in space saving.

Basically, there are 2 types of toilets:

  • One-piece toilets
  • Two-piece toilets

In general, one-piece toilets are more space-friendly than their two-piece counterparts. This type of toilet is designed as one unit so that the tank and bowl are joined together.

The benefits of such construction include effortless cleanup and clean finish. There are no seams to harbor grime or dust. The biggest downside is that these toilets are more expensive.

In contrast, 2-piece toilets come with the bowl and water tank as seperate pieces that are attached. So, if either part needs to be replaced, you can safely remove it without having to remove the other.

Flushing Efficiency

Flushing efficiency is another factor to take into consideration. It's always good to not waste anything if you don't have to, and water isn't free.

That's why you should seek out bathroom accessories that are made with water conservation in mind.

Dual-flush toilets are typically more water efficient compared to a single flush system, but if you prefer a single-flush setup, be sure to pick one that features a good flushing efficiency, this is usually around 1.0 GPF (Gallons Per Flush).

Installation

Different models have different installation requirements.

That may include the size of the tank, plumbing, and water source. Make sure that you choose a model that's easy to set up.

One-piece toilets are generally easier to install, as it is not necessary to connect the bowl to the tank. The installation comes down to one task, which is getting the toilet into position.

With regard to the installation of two-piece toilets, the good thing is that you will able to deal with the bowl and tank separately. The total weight is divided between these two parts, which makes things a whole lot easier.

Space Saving Ideas for Small Bathrooms

Do you have a tiny bathroom? Don't despair. A small bathroom can be both stylish and functional.

You just need to find ways to maximize the available space and make the most of it.

Below are some space-saving tips and tricks to optimize space in a small bathroom.

Compact Toilets For Small Bathrooms

One of the most effective ways to maximize the space in your small bathroom is to get a compact toilet. Most of these toilets don't include external water tanks, so they're much smaller. They can fit into a tiny space without much of a hassle at all.

Make sure that you know the exact dimensions of your bathroom before buying a toilet.

Glass Doors or  Shower Curtains

Use a glass shower door rather than a shower curtain. This can make your bathroom seem larger by creating the illusion of open space.

A glass shower door will give you the feeling that the shower area is not isolated from the rest of your bathroom.

Some people don't like clear glass doors, though. If so, choose a bright colored curtain rather than a dark one that can make your bathroom seem smaller.

Sliding Doors

Another way to maximize space is to use a sliding door. It is particularly useful for tiny bathrooms.

Not only will such a door save on space, but it will also make your bathroom more stylish by adding a modern touch to it.

Soft Colors

Use soft colors for the walls. Also, choose towels, accessories, and decorations items that come in vivid colors.

Just as with any other room, soft colors can make your bathroom look somewhat bigger. Strong colors, on the other hand, can make a small bathroom look even smaller.

Improve Functionality of Your Bathroom

Some small bathrooms have a shower while others have a tub with a shower inside.

If you would rather choose a bathtub than a shower, make sure you save space somewhere else.

For example, you can use a pullout faucet in your bathroom. It's also possible to save some space by using a washbasin that comes with tower bars.

Choose a small sink over a big one, remove all wall-mounted towers racks , and go for bathroom furniture with curved corners.

Ready to Save Space In Your Bathroom With a Compact Toilets For Small Bathrooms?

We hope you've enjoyed reading this post. Our goal was to help people who have a small bathroom choose the best toilet.

Even with a small bathroom, if you choose the right compact toilets for small bathrooms, it can really make the room feel more open and expansive.

These space-saving toilets can make your bathroom look stylish and adorable without sacrificing comfort.

Amortization schedules sound complicated but they help simplify loan payments. This special accounting tool works best with loans paid over a fixed time period according to The Balance. It helps you manage payments, visualize them and better understand the costs. Learn all about amortization with this quick guide.

Before you start using an amortization table calculator or drawing up your own schedule, it helps to better understand what amortization is all about. Simply put, it's a method for paying certain types of loans.

Long-term loans that you pay off over a number of years typically accrue interest along the way. The method for paying those loans over time using small increments of money that goes toward the principal, or the total amount you borrowed, and the interest that's applied to the loan, according to Smartsheet.

Reasons to Set an Amortization Schedule

An amortization schedule is a table of loan payments that shows you the amount of interest and principal that goes into each payment from the time you get the loan until you have it paid off, as noted by Investopedia. The biggest reason to create a schedule like this? It allows you to visualize the amount of interest you're really paying, giving you an effective tool for comparing different loan options.

You could have two loan options: one with a lower monthly payment and one with a higher payment amount, says The Balance. Once you create an amortization schedule, you'll clearly see the difference you'll pay in interest. That can help you make more informed decisions about your loans.

What Goes into an Amortization Schedule?

Before you can create your own printable amortization chart, you need to know all the components that go into the calculations. Smartsheet recommends gathering details like:

  • Your loan amount, the total you borrow before taking any interest or payments into account
  • The amount of time you'll take paying off the loan, a period usually expressed in years
  • The annual interest rate
  • The frequency you'll make payments, which could be weekly, monthly or yearly depending on the loan
  • The total number of payments required to pay the loan

Loans That Get Amortized

You wouldn't get a free amortization chart or spreadsheet for credit cards. Amortization schedules are designed for loans with fixed payment amounts spread over time. This most commonly applies to monthly payments for loans like auto, home and student loans, as noted by The Balance. It's important to note that the payment amount itself remains the same throughout the life of the loan, but the amounts going toward principal and interest differs.

Tips for Setting an Amortization Schedule

Now that you know more about amortization and what goes into an amortization schedule, consider creating your own free amortization spreadsheet. You can use software like Excel or Smartsheet. The Balance recommends creating it by hand using a few basic steps:

  1. Start by noting the total loan amount
  2. Calculate the interest for each loan period.
  3. Subtract the periodic interest charge from your payment amount to calculate the amount of principal you're paying
  4. Reduce the loan balance by the amount of principal you paid to figure out the loan balance.
  5. Repeat the formula until you've figured out the payments for the life of the loan

"What is that smell?" you may have just asked yourself as you walk in and your bathroom smells like sewer. Well, we are here to help you identify and eliminate that odor – after you have deduced it was not coming from any of the usual suspects.

Why Does My Bathroom Smell Like Sewer?

Sewer Smell In House - Hoffmann Brothers Once you have identified a sewer gas smell, it is important to identify the cause quickly. Can sewer gas make you sick? These gas fumes, like hydrogen sulfide – the gas that leaves a rotten egg smell in its wake and is highly flammable and toxic – can be hazardous to your health. Depending on your level of sensitivity to these environmental odors, you could experience symptoms such as:

  • headaches
  • nausea
  • shortness of breath
  • drowsiness
  • heart palpitations

Another important factor is minimizing damage. If there is sewage backing up into your house, you can count on a certain level of damage to your basement or other areas of your home along with any belongings in those areas that may be damaged or ruined. And that can be quite an expensive problem.

Common Causes of Sewer Smell in House

So what could be the cause of this unbearable stench? You could have one of several issues on your hands. A sewer gas smell in the bathroom can be caused by:

  • evaporation of water in the P-trap piping
  • broken seal around the toilet in the wax ring or the caulk
  • A burst pipe
  • tree's roots have grown into or have caused damage to your sewer pipes
  • the sewer or main drain has bellied, collapsed, deformed, or deteriorated

Any one of these could allow the sewer smell to invade your home.

How to Eliminate Sewer Odor

When you're looking for how to get rid of sewer smell, there are a few options to consider.

Popular DIY Sewer Smell Solutions

For minor plumbing problems, you might try your hand at these Do It Yourself methods:

  • P-trap Sewer Smell Solution
It's possible that a sewage gas smell is coming from a rarely used guest bathroom, which accounts for the water evaporation. This typically has the easiest of all fixes.

Try This: Run water through your sink or drain to allow the P-trap to properly fill up with water again and effectively block those smells from perpetrating your home.

  • Broken Seal Sewer Smell Solution
When there is a broken seal – or the lack of a seal – in the caulk or wax ring around your toilet, it means water, urine and other waste find their way through the crevices, allowing bacteria to grow. This bacterium then causes the foul odor you detected. Luckily, the solution for this is fairly straightforward.

Try This: Apply a bead or a line of caulk around the exposed area, and your bathroom will be back to smelling like the spring meadow fragrance of your favorite bathroom cleaner in no time!

If you do find yourself troubleshooting only to discover that the minor issues and DIY solutions aren't doing the trick, it's probably time to call in a professional to handle your sewer odor issues.

Professional Sewer Solutions for Sewer Odor in House

Here are the most popular steps taken by sewer repair contractors to determine the state of your sewer line and to diagnosing what your next best steps:

  • Sewer Camera Inspection – First, drain plumbers will perform a sewer inspection with a camera that provides video evidence of the root cause of your trouble.
  • Sewer Drain Cleaning – Sometimes the best option for clearing sewer pipes may include hydro jetting. With blockages removed, a plumber can determine if additional repairs or replacement are needed to solve the issue.
  • Sewer Repair – Think of a sewer repair as a spot repair. It will patch the problem, but it will not guarantee that the tree in your yard won't keep growing and cause further damage to another section of your sewer pipes down the road.
  • Sewer Replacement – This is your long-term solution and can be performed in a number of ways. The traditional route involves digging and excavation of your yard to lay down new piping. It can certainly get the job done, but for alleviating the burden of torn up landscaping and sidewalks, many are turning to trenchless sewer solutions.
  • Trenchless Sewer Repair & Replacement – An experienced plumbing company will typically have two cost-effective "no dig" methods of trenchless sewer options available:
    • Pipe Bursting – Through this method, access points are created to thread a cable through the existing sewer line, pulling a new pipe into place, bursting and replacing the old damaged line.
    • Pipe Lining – The conventional method involves a tube covered with epoxy is inserted into existing pipes, inflated with hot air and sealed in place to the old cracked pipes, created a new seal that can last for decades. The new method, known as the Bluelight LED System, cures a resin to the older pipes with LED light, boosting productivity and increasing curing speed up to five times.

Pay Attention to an Untreated Sewer Smell

The main goal of any sewer odor solution is to eliminate the smell and toxic gases that may be causing the issues. But when you've been unable to identify or fix the problem, that's really the time to schedule a sewer inspection, repair or replacement with a licensed plumber to get the job done correctly before it grows into something more.
